Some patients require or prefer a slightly higher caloric diet regimen. The LCD program is much like the MVLCD because it utilizes both RFO nutritional products and portion-controlled meals.
Potassium supplements are usually not required in the LCD program. If potassium does become a requirement then the patient must be placed in the MVLCD even at the higher caloric intake. The caloric the range for the LCD program is from 1000 to 1500 calories per day.
Since the caloric restriction is not as drastic and since potassium supplements are not used, medical monitoring is not as rigid as in the VLCD and MVLCD programs:
- LCD patients do have their weight recorded weekly
- Their vital signs taken every 4 weeks
- A consultation with a physician once a month
- Have dietitian consultations twice a month
- Laboratory chemistries, EKG's and BIA's performed every eight to twelve weeks.
